Weather is always crucial in this case, but we always try to have a Plan B if the weather will disappoint. Especially in London, where the weather is always unpredictable, we need to plan for every event.

Most of us will be able to entertain guests in our gardens, meaning that we can take full advantage of the glorious weather that is coming. Those special birthdays, baby showers, picnics, and barbecues are what we live for every summer.

The most important thing to consider is that balloons may not last as well outdoors as they will indoors. We have some tricks and tips for your balloon display to add a little more longevity.

Tips for outdoor balloon displays

  • Never water your balloons to cool them down. Where possible, try to plan for external balloons to be in a covered area. Wet balloons become sticky.
  • A good trick is to double up the balloons — a great option to bolster the top layer of your display or arch by creating a slightly tougher shield.
  • Underinflate. This is crucial. We never inflate balloons to their max — this gives them some extra elasticity and space.
  • Avoid using helium if possible. Heat can accelerate the diffusion process, speeding up the escape of helium and reducing float time.
  • Avoid using dark colours where possible, especially outside in hot weather. Dark colours soak up the heat a lot quicker than light colours. Pastel colours will serve you well in hot weather and look stunning at a baby shower or picnic.
